Wonderful Wonderful Copenhagen (summer trip part 1)

Well, it's been so long since my last blog that I wasn't sure I could sign in again.  Or even find my own darn blog.  But here I am.  Just warming up for the Christmas newsletter.  Just kidding.  Maybe.

My Handsome and I had a great trip.  Our main purpose was to attend my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary.  Knut and Kirsten are an inspiration.  It is wonderful to see a couple so in love after so many years together.  We celebrated in a heritage property in Copenhagen.  Note the groovy stag's head.

Apparently Knut's speech was wonderful and a tribute to Kirsten.  As it was in Norwegian, I didn't catch all of it but I could observe the sentiment.  The other speeches were in either Danish or Norwegian but judging by the laughter and guest reaction, they were pretty great, including the one from my own husband where I'm sure he heralded my attributes as a wife in great detail.

(Just a wee note about the food which was wonderful - you can have butter or you can have fat - your choice and each guaranteed to affect your cholesterol the same way.)

I was so pleased to have a chance to visit Copenhagen again.  I love that city.  Ever since I saw the Hans Christian Andersen movie with "Wonderful Wonderful Copenhagen", I'd always wanted to go.  I've now had the privilege of going there twice.  The last time we went two years ago, I didn't get to see The Little Mermaid as she was on loan to the World's Fair.  So here she is at sunset for your viewing pleasure:

This visit we rented bikes from our hotel and drove all over.  I saw where my Handsome was baptized.  Cycling is a great way to see the city as there is some kind of bike lane set up on every street.  Also, the weather held -- it can be a bit iffy there even in summer.

The last time we were in Copenhagen, our main objective was to eat as much Anthon Berg chocolate as possible. Oh wait a minute, that's my objective anywhere I can get it - Norway, Iceland, Denmark - I'm not fussy.  My friend Heather sent me a link showing that it is supposed available in Shopper's Drug Mart.  We think this is an evil ploy to mess with our minds as I have never ever seen it there and my chocolate radar is quite well developed.

But seriously, we wanted to visit a lovely park we had found on our last trip but we had come upon it very late in the evening so with our bikes we rode back for another visit. It was even complete with a couple of "ugly ducklings" who refused to swim in the right direction for me to photograph.

We went out for dinner to a seafood restaurant with my brother-in-law's family.  Note the special below.  We passed.

Finally, I just had to include one last picture from Copenhagen.  Enjoy.

Sunday in the Summer etc...

Okay, bear with me, I'm still trying to figure out how to do this blogging thing.  Apparently once you post something, you can't edit it.  Oh well.

I hadn't been to St. Jacob's in years. In fact I'm not sure I've ever been to St. Jacobs - possibly just the nearby towns of Elmira, Elora, Fergus etc.   Home of "Home Hardware", my favourite Ontario success stories.  But did you know that there is a Maple Syrup Museum there too?  Who would have thunk it?
But the coolest thing was the model railroad layout of the town.  Wow, Sid, my stepdad would have been in heaven.

But most importantly, we found a really neat piece of furniture for our dining room. Bye-bye one more piece of IKEA crap. (No offence IKEA - it's just time for us to move on...)
